Global Outreach exists to:

  • Inspire and involve the church to reach the world

Injustice, poverty, broken families, disease… these are daily reminders that we live in a world lost in sin and evil. But God is on a mission to redeem lost and hurting and evil people. In fact, the Bible tells us that one day redeemed people from every ethnic group on earth will worship Him. While we wait for this day, the job of every follower of Jesus is to join in His mission to reach the world with the message of redemption. Global Outreach exists to help every WBCer discover his or her role in this global mission of God.

  • Prepare and send missionaries from WBC.

God calls some in our congregation to go as missionaries—to cross into another culture to serve this global mission of God in some way. We prepare people for this task by helping them find strategic roles and mentoring them as they grow in character, competency and connection with the WBC community. We send missionaries out with a commitment of care, prayer and financial support.

A Heritage of Global Mission

  • The Beginning

In 1931, our annual budget for mission was $600. In 1933, we raised support for the first Wheaton Bible Church missionaries, Robert and Winifried Hockman, to be sent out from our congregation. We sent them at the same time that we were raising money for our first church building. At the time, it could take weeks, months or sometimes the better part of a year for missionaries to arrive at their new home. Means of travel included trains, ships and caravans with pack animals.
  • Our Commitment

Our financial support of missionaries today is approximately 25% of our church budget, over a million dollars annually. Our 103 missionary individuals and families serve in approximately 40 countries in a wide variety of roles. Many of them have deep roots at WBC because they lived here for many years before going to the field or one spouse "grew up" here, or as a result of being second generation WBC missionaries.
