Create a Good Neighbor Kit for Iraqi Refugee Families - When families do arrive they normally have barely more than the
clothes are their backs and few belongings. Most families will be going
from the airport straight into an apartment. They will be lacking the
essentials, things like pots and pans, bedding, towels, basic hygiene
equipment, etc. We have a comprehensive shopping list of items each
family should have when they move into the apartment. Your Community
Group can contact Chris McElwee to sign up to build a kit, divide it up and go shopping. You may even
be able to pick the family up from the airport and introduce them to
their new apartment.
- A More Intensive Experience for Iraqi Refugee families - Going deeper with people in your community groups involves more than
gathering together in homes for Bible study and fellowship. It also
involves reaching the world, which means sharing the Gospel and serving
others. Wheaton Bible Church's mission is to Love God, Grow Together and
Reach the World. When we are doing all three parts of our mission, we
believe we are most completely responding to God's call.
- Community Group Mission Projects - From time to time we want to let you know of some opportunities for your Community Group to jump into as a mission project.
As you may already know, WBC is gearing up to reach North Africans who
are immigrating to France. Hopefully you are familiar with our outreach
to people living in the Timber Lake (formerly Westwood) Apartments in West Chicago, called
Puente del Pueblo. The fact is that these two initiatives have a common
thread.
Because of our involvement in Timber Lake (formerly Westwood), with our offices and staff
already there, and because of our outstanding after-school program,
World Relief will be resettling Iraqi refugees into the Timberlake
Apartments.
-
How does this fit together? Our outreach to North Africans and our
outreach to Timber Lake (formerly Westwood) locally will both involve ministry to people of a
Muslim background. We believe God has brought all of this together. What
could be more synergistic than reaching Muslims both overseas and
locally, especially when we have already established such a strong
presence in Timber Lake.
- Where do you fit in? We are looking for Community Groups to come
together to help resettle families arriving from Iraq. You would work
together as a team, with full support from Global Outreach, Local Impact
and World Relief to help a family restart their life in the U.S. This
is an amazing assignment God has given us. By building relationships
with these families, we will be presented with opportunities to share
the Gospel. Many of these families will have never read the Bible or
heard the Christian message of grace.
