Puente del Pueblo After-School Teacher
How I came into relationship with Jesus Christ
I was raised in a Christian environment, attended church every Sunday with my family, attending Confirmation classes for 3 years and began taking communion in sixth grade. I left home at age 20 and started attending church in my new location. I married at the age of 25 and both my wife and I attended church regularly, but I don't believe I really accepted Jesus Christ until just after my first child was born. I took my faith to a new level at age 25 and began a relationship with the Lord.
How I came to Wheaton Bible Church
I was very involved at a church nearby and served as an Elder, Treasurer, Usher, and as Executive Director of the church. Unfortunately, I got way too involved in the "business" part of the church and no longer felt as though this church would allow me to grow further in my faith. My wife, two daughters and i were looking for a new church home when I found myself in a conversation with Rob Bugh at a Wheaton North Cross Country meet (our daughters ran together). I'd heard good things about Wheaton Bible Church but always thought it was too big. Needless to say, we started attending regularly and found that WBC goes out of their way to make it feel right.
What I do at Wheaton Bible Church
I am a teacher in the
Puente del Pueblo
outreach program. I teach 5th and 6th grade students at Wegner Elementary school each day from 1:30 to 5:30 pm. This involves ensuring that the students' homework is completed, reading is done, and I help them to improve in any area in which they may be having trouble.
Why I do what I do
I have been learning about God my entire adult life and growing in my relationship with Him. I believe that God led me to Puente del Pueblo to help me to reach out and help others learn about the Lord - and help them with their academics at the same time. It feels great to help others and I am seeing that my work is making a difference in the students' lives.
