Love God, Grow Together, Reach the World

    Lon Allison

Pastor of Teaching & OutreachLon Allison is Pastor of Teaching and Outreach at Wheaton Bible Church in the Chicago area. Lon is also an instructor and has taught Masters and doctoral evangelism courses at North Park Theological Seminary, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Northern Seminary and is a visiting professor at Wheaton College Graduate School.

Lon had served as a youth minister, pastor of four churches, Director of Evangelism and Prayer for a denomination, and for fifteen years served as Executive Director of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College. He has been a guest speaker at churches and conferences the world over for the past 30 years.

Lon and his wife Marie reside in West Chicago, Illinois. They have three adult children: daughters – Tara and Courtney, and son – Eric. Lon’s aspiration is to be faithful to his family as lover, provider, spiritual guide, and fun-loving friend. He enjoys many fitness ventures. He is an amateur mountain climber, marathon runner, weight lifter, and has fun boating with his family. He also loves to ride his Honda American Classic motorcycle while singing songs from the 1960s and 1970s.

Lon holds a Doctor of Ministry in Homiletics from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Science from California State University.

Lon has published two books: Going Public with the Gospel and That the World May Believe, a brief biography of John R. Mott. He is a consulting editor for Outreach magazine, and has published numerous articles on topics of evangelism, spiritual formation, preaching, church growth, and leadership. He also has a professional background in music and theater, as a professional actor and musician, with credits on stage and television. His presentations to churches and conferences often combine speaking, music, and drama in an informative and compelling way.

Lon serves as a member of the board of Leighton Ford Ministries, and Vice-Chair of the U.S. Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization. He participates as a member of Dr. Leighton Ford’s Point Group, which is a team of 10 evangelism leaders from around the world. And he directs a mentoring fellowship of 9 younger evangelism leaders from 4 countries.

Lon has a heart for the unchurched person. Converted at age 17 and not involved in a church until age 20, he remembers what it is to be outside of Christ and the Church. His pastorates were new churches whose philosophy of ministry was first and foremost to reach unchurched people with the message of new birth. Today, he brings a history of those experiments: the successes and sorrows, the achievements and the mistakes, and most of all an increasing confidence that God wants lost people found and will use every Christian to do it.
