Everywhere we look we see people asking for it. Every time we turn on the television, we hear about the need for it. The candidates are promising to make it happen. Everyone is talking about it, demanding it and longing for it: change. And yet, if we’re honest, we all have the sinking suspicion that though the next great thing may be different, though it may promise great things, it won’t be the kind of change we really long for.

And the truth of the matter is, whether we ask for it or not, change is coming. In our own busy lives of careers, raising families and withstanding the stresses of life, it seems that change is coming at us faster and in more dramatic ways.

This year as a church family, we will make a move to North Avenue and that will bring huge change. In a new building, with new neighbors and a new mission, we have an amazing opportunity and an awesome responsibility.

And as we face this season of change, there is only one way for us to be ready. It’s not a program or an event. It’s not the latest ministry thinking. It’s about taking the time to go back to the very basics of our faith, to the roots of what we believe, to the unchanging truths of God’s Word. We need to revisit the unchanging realities of who our God is, of who we are in our broken and sinful condition, the hope of our great salvation in Christ and the unchanging call to live Kingdom lives.

In these next 16 weeks, we are going to examine these eternal truths and allow the Holy Spirit to challenge us to let our lives, thoughts and choices flow from them.

In the midst of a culture yearning for change, going deep into the roots of our faith is the only true path to satisfy the deep hunger for redemption and real-life change that cries out each of our hearts.
