WHAT YOU CAN DO

How you can make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS

How to give

Wheaton Bible Church's Heart for AIDS budget has its own account, separate from our regular operating budget and/or missions budget. Any contributions to the Heart for AIDS Initiative will go directly to WBC's ministry efforts on that front.

To make a contribution, make your check payable to Wheaton Bible Church and include a separate note that says it's for the Heart for AIDS Initiative. (Do not write it in the memo line on your check.) Send your check to:

            Heart for AIDS Initiative

            Wheaton Bible Church

            Main & Franklin

            Wheaton, IL 60187

You can also donate with your regular Sunday giving envelopes, writing "Heart for AIDS" in the blank space.

If you have further questions about donating to Heart for AIDS, e-mail AIDS@wheatonbible.org or call Cindy Judge at 630.588.7150.

How to Pray

It's hard to know where to start when praying for something as big as the global AIDS issue, a health crisis that takes the lives of 6,000 people a day in Africa alone. But here are a few things to consider as you hit your knees:

Ask God to save lives. That might be accomplished in any number of ways—through preventive education, through lifestyle changes, through medical help (perhaps even a cure some day), through divine intervention. Pray for whatever it takes to reverse the horrific death rates around the world.

Ask God to change lives. The HIV/AIDS virus is often (though not always) spread through risky and frequently sinful sexual behavior, and the rate of its spread will only reverse when people begin to make significant lifestyle changes—with a commitment to abstinence before marriage, and to purity and faithfulness within marriage. Such change is often the result of spiritual transformation, so ask God to bring people to himself, to discover his gracious love and compassion, and to follow his commands.

Ask God to move lives. In other words, to move people to act. To move politicians and leaders—at home, where red tape often stands in the way, and abroad, where corruption often hinders relief efforts—to make the right decisions. To move church leaders to catch the vision and rally their congregations to the cause. And to move laypeople to do whatever it takes—giving, praying, advocating, going, ministering, etc.—to make an eternal difference.

For more specific ways to pray for Wheaton Bible Church's Heart for AIDS Initiative, we encourage you to surf around this website, learn about what we're doing, and ask God to lead you to pray for these things accordingly.

How to get involved

Besides giving and praying, the church offers several other ways for you to join the fight against HIV/AIDS. The Heart for AIDS task force meets several times per year. Pertinent local seminars and gatherings offer a place to learn more. Occasionally, WBC sends GO missions teams as part of the AIDS ministry. And we are beginning to partner with local ministries in DuPage County to reach out to those around us with HIV/AIDS.
