After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go!" - Luke 10.1 - 3a

As Jesus sent out seventy-two short term "harvest workers" in Luke 10, He sends us out short term "workers" today. The harvest is still plentiful, and the workers are still few. So we respond to the same command to "go!"... usually not knowing exactly who and what we'll encounter, but knowing that the One who sends us is bringing forth a harvest of spiritual fruit among the nations!

At Wheaton Bible Church, we build on this (and other) biblical models of sending short term missionaries. We send approximately eight to ten short term teams every year. We go at the invitations of our long term missionaries and partner agencies, strategically supporting their efforts by serving in a variety of ways. We use skills in construction, business, youth ministry, teaching and drama, for example - or simply our abilities to listen and encourage believers in another part of the world. In the process, we come home changed: our eyes opened to new realities about God, our world and the Church.

Applications are required for each GO Team. You can download an application by clicking the link below or pick up the correct one in the Global Outreach Center. There are separate applications for veteran and for 1st-time GO team members. Return the completed application to Susan in the Global Outreach office. You will then be contacted for an interview.

Dominican Republic, March 27 - April 3, 2010:

Construction: Serve children-at-risk in the Dominican Republic. This team will help with construction to move forward plans for growth at the Kids Alive Constanza Orphanage and Care Center. Teenagers (9th grade and above, accompanied by a parent) are welcome.

Ethiopia , April 1 - 13, 2010:

Women's Team: Join WBC missionary Mindy Beetham and a group of women in leadership from 27 churches in Addis Ababa for a weekend retreat. Team members will also visit with Ethiopian churches and ministries during the week to learn and be an encouragement.

Kazakhstan, April 9 - 19, 2010:

Business / Professional Training: Present seminars to university classes in your area of expertise (business, English or cross-cultural communication). No teaching background is necessary, only professional experience and a willingness to model your walk with God to Kazakhstan's future leaders.

N. Africa / France, June 11 - 26, 2010:

The Move Initiative Explore Trip: Are your considering joining one of our three-year teams moving to France to reach out to North African immigrants? Join this explore trip and encounter firsthand the needs and ministry opportunities among these displaced peoples whom God loves.

Romania, July 9 - 19, 2010:

Health Care: Calling doctors, nurses and medical technologists. Serve alongside our sister church in Deva, Romania, by performing medical screenings in Deva and outlying villages. The screenings help the church provide a valuable service to the community and serve as a platform for evangelism.

Canada, July 16 - 25, 2010:

Outreach / Work Projects: Serve at the Whitefish River First Nation Reserve in Ontario. Opportunities include: spending time with women, children and teens in day camp settings, youth leadership training, community work projects and sharing a meal with the community. Families are welcome.

Project Serve: Summer 2010

High school student teams will partner with churches and organizations locally, nation-wide and internationally to build kingdom bridges into their respective communities. Although each trip is unique in its focus and target group, Project Serve, as a whole, is a time when high school students learn to love God, grow together, and actively reach the world.

Full Service: Summer 2010

In partnership with New Hope Bible Church in inner-city Chicago, Junior High students will experience hands-on training in street evangelism and working with the homeless. They will also have an opportunity to serve the community, run VBS clubs and grow spiritually.

General GO Team Member Requirements

All GO Team members must:

Be a regular attender and participant (in most cases) in the ministries of Wheaton Bible Church. If there is space on a team, interested applicants from outside Wheaton Bible Church will be considered.
Be at least 18 years of age. Exceptions may be specified in the trip description (such as on a designated family team), and requests for individual exceptions may be considered. Any participant under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.
Agree to participate in all the required team orientation meetings before the trip and attend the team debriefing meeting(s) after the trip is completed.
Agree to GO team financial policies established by the Global Outreach office. All participants are personally responsible to pay for, or arrange funding for, their portion of the team/trip costs. Training is provided for raising support.
Be in good health.
Travel with the team.

Acceptance to a Team

If you meet the conditions under "General GO Team Member Requirements," please submit an application to Susan in the Global Outreach office. Application deadlines are specified above. A team leader will then contact you for an interview. You will be notified promptly if your application is not accepted. Considerations for participation include:

We send general teams, which need willing, able servants to serve our missionary or partner, and specialty teams, which require specifically skilled people to meet special needs. The applicant should possess any skills or gifts needed for the identified project and express interest in the purpose of the particular GO team.
Applicant demonstrates a level of maturity and life experience to fit well as a team player and to respond to the leadership of another person.
Applicant is known to possess characteristics that will enable effective service within a cross-cultural environment.

Once you are accepted on a team, you will be responsible for any non-refundable costs (i.e., airline tickets, etc.) incurred by Global Outreach if you withdraw from the trip or if the entire trip is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Wheaton Bible Church Global Outreach makes the final decision to approve or not approve any applicant.
