Global Outreach at Wheaton Bible Church

The mission of Wheaton Bible Church (WBC) is to love God, grow together and reach the world. The purpose of Global Outreach (GO) at WBC is to mobilize the church to help reach the world for Jesus Christ.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." 2 Cor. 5.17-19

Being called Christ's ambassadors gives every believer the privilege of representing Him wherever we go. We reach out with love through serving needs and proclaim his life-giving message of reconciliation to those who have never heard.

Key Global Outreach Objectives:

To inspire and involve the church in the global mission of reaching the world.

Understanding God's perspective and love for the world inspires us to action. Engaging our minds, our hearts and our hands in the work of God around the world is our desire for each WBCer.

To prepare and send missionaries from WBC.

While worshipping and growing spiritually at WBC, many people come to recognize God's call to use their unique gifts and abilities to bring God's love to the world as Short Term, Mid-term or Long Term missionaries. We prepare and send out missionaries with a commitment of care, prayer and financial support. Click here if you are interested in Mid-term (six months - three years) or Long Term mission.

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field." Matt. 9.37-38

Global Outreach Values

1. Sharing Christ with the Unreached

Through our missionaries, we as a church support virtually every kind of opportunity to make Christ known. The world changes and methods of evangelism are reinvented, but the timeless truth of the gospel is unchanging.

2. Empowering Nationals

Missionaries we send and support strengthen under-resourced church leaders by teaching in the countries where they are based. As the population of the majority world becomes more Christian, traditional "mission field" countries are becoming missionary-sending countries. In such a context, we work alongside national leadership.

3. Innovation in Ministry

New technology allows for ever-changing avenues of ministry in publishing, radio, translation, medicine and education. Every year we support the use of methods never before possible.

4. Ministries of Compassion in Jesus' Name

Many of our missionaries live among the poor, and in partnership with national leaders, work on strategies of micro-lending, job creation, vocational skills training, community health work and programs for children at risk. The impact is far-reaching. As believers help to address social and economic needs in Jesus' name, they are able to share the Gospel and witness God transforming communities. We also practice holistic ministry in our two church-wide global initiatives and attempt to respond to many natural

and man-made global disasters.

These are WBC's Foundational Values in Compassion Ministries:

1.)  That the program does not perpetuate dependence & poverty.

2.)  That the program includes intentional, sound development practices which foster wholeness

and empowers people in connection with the local church.

3.)  That the on-site delivery distinctively communicates Christ appropriate to the context.

4.)   We realize there are various forms and stages of ministries and that there are times when

providing food / goods / assistance directly and immediately (i.e. in disaster relief) through

the local church / in Jesus’ name is the best response.

5.)  We will educate our congregation in the process and promote best practices in our church’s

             ministries.

6.)  We value longer-term relationships / cooperation with organizational ministry partners.

7.)  We partner with organizations which are financially efficient, transparent, and (typically) Evangelical Council for Financial Accountibility (ECFA) members.
