WBC has a diverse force of missionaries that numbers over 90 families with 40 plus agencies in 42 countries.  In an effort to categorize such a unique group, does any special distinctive arise?  This is a challenge!  Click here to learn more about our emphases.

With a 78 year heritage of sending missionaries around the world, Wheaton Bible Church has continually worked at keeping our qualifications for sending a missionary compatible with current trends in missions and with the standards that have allowed us to send the most qualified and effective missionaries through the years.

Wheaton Bible Church is pleased to support applicants who are well-qualified and have a strong tie to this church.  The key qualifications for WBC missionary status are based on calling, character, community (having at least a five-year relationship to WBC) and competence to serve.  Being a founding church of the Greater Chicago Missions Consortium (GCMC), we also often accept an annual candidate initiated by one of the GCMC member churches. We occasionally accept a national who is in a long-term working relationship with a current missionary.

Our current WBC criteria for missionary status are based on these four dimensions.

    1.  Calling – Candidate must be able to clearly articulate God’s call to a particular ministry

         for which he/she is well-suited.

    2.  Character – Candidate must demonstrate consistent Godly character and have

exhibited a Christ-like maturity verified through close observation and through

         references.

    3.  Community – Candidate must have been active at WBC for at least 5 years or in the

case of a national, must have been in close relationship to a WBC missionary for at

         least 5 years.

    4.  Competency – Candidate must demonstrate ability, giftedness and some experience

to fulfill his/her call into ministry such as educational preparation or proven cross-

         cultural experience and effectiveness.

Here is the six-step application process for becoming a WBC missionary candidate. Applicant should follow the guide in this order:

    1.  Meet with Cindy Judge, Director of Global Outreach.

    2.  Candidate(s) enters the one to two year Missionary Preparation Program (MPP).

Click here to find out more information about MPP.

    3.  Make application and be accepted with an approved mission agency (ECFA member).

    4.  Submit completed WBC Career Missionary Application with references

    5.  Be interviewed by WBC Missions Ministry Team Personnel Committee.

    6.  Receive approval of Missions Ministry Team and Elder Board for WBC missionary

         status.
