HOPE [KENYA] is our churchwide global initiative in Kenya, working both in Nakuru and in the Turkana region.
This initiative began in 2004, when Wheaton Bible Church embarked on a daunting effort to reach out among the most vulnerable in African communities. Heart for AIDS—WBC’s first global initiative—was launched to address the Goliath of HIV/AIDS in Nakuru, Kenya. Over the years, the ravages of AIDS have been reduced and hundreds of lives have been transformed by the grace of God.
In 2011, WBC learned of a drought bringing tens of thousands of Kenyans to the brink of starvation in the remote northern region of Turkana. Our church helped fund emergency food aid. Then we continued a second mile, responding to the invitation of World Relief Kenya and Parklands Baptist (a large, missions-focused church in Nairobi). They invited us to explore how we might work together to transition relief into recovery and belief, interweaving holistic development and authentic discipleship among one of Africa’s least reached people groups.
Together we are dreaming about a different future for Turkana as:
- Communities are learning new techniques to grow crops and feed themselves
- Despair is being displaced by hope
- Turkana men and women become ambassadors of the Prince of Peace
- AIDS is declining and literacy is rising
- Churches are multiplying
Here are several ways you can get involved:
Get involved by exploring being part of the HOPE [KENYA] Leadership Team or other areas for engagement in this initiative.
Commit to praying for our missionaries, ministry partners serving in Kenya, and the Turkana people, that God's Kingdom might be extended among them.
Participate in a GO Team
We periodically send short-term teams to Kenya to engage in service firsthand. Consider how God may be leading you to become more involved. Click here for more information.
