Ephesians 3:20-21

Here Paul returns again to worship. As he prays for the Ephesians, he is swept up into praise of the God who is able to do more than all we can measure. Our God has power to do more that we can conceive. The amazing thing is that His supernatural power is at work within us. He has tasked us, the Church, to do His bidding on this planet. 

This supernatural endeavor manifests His character, both within the Church and in His Son Jesus Christ for all time and beyond. What a privilege to worship a God like this! A God who is willing to unleash limitless power in response to the petitions of humans. A God who is capable of that which is beyond our wildest dreams. A God who purposes to exhibit Himself in those He empowers, His power at work within us. 

How can we, the church, be passive in this incredible activity of God revealing His glorious character to His creation? Every role within the church has the privilege and responsibility to make known the attributes of our God. The perfect example of this is Jesus Christ Himself. His life and words are the ultimate physical and verbal expression of God within human existence. Jesus is the last word of God—actually the only word of God—for our redemption.  

Jesus has always existed, and He completed a mission formulated before the universe came to be. The sacrificial death of our Lord upon the cross, diverting the righteous wrath of God upon Himself, availed the working of God’s power in the lives of men and women, boys and girls who have been brought out of darkness and into His glorious light. We have been redeemed to reveal the glory of the eternal God throughout all generations and forever and ever.  

Questions for reflection and discussion:  

  • When have you seen God exceed your requests or dreams through the exercise of His power in you?  
  • When in your experience has the church revealed the glory of God in the world?  
  • How have the life and words of Jesus given you a fuller understanding of the living God?
