October 24, 2025

Over the last four days, we’ve been looking at 2 Corinthians 5:14–21 and considering what it teaches us as a mission-oriented church. It’s easy to assume that the mission of the church only takes place in faraway places. While the church commissions some Christians to plant and assist churches around the world, the mission of the church is not limited to what they do.

You and I share the same responsibility to spread the aroma of God’s love to those near us as others do to those far from us. One place we have the privilege of spreading this aroma is in the workplace—our theme for Local Sunday. So, how can we live out our faith at work?

First, let’s review what we’ve learned this week:

  • You are an ambassador of God (2 Corinthians 5:20–21).
  • You are sent to deliver God’s message of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18–19).
  • Because you are a new creation in Christ, you no longer judge others by outward appearance but look at the heart (2 Corinthians 5:16–17).
  • The love of Jesus—displayed for you on the cross—compels you to live for Him in whatever context you find yourself (2 Corinthians 5:14–15).

The Christian life in the workplace is no different from the Christian life in another land. You remain an ambassador of God who proclaims His message of reconciliation, delivering it to those who need it and encouraging those who have it, all the while fueled by the love of Christ.

As you seek to share the good news of God’s love, you also have the opportunity to show what a reconciled life looks like. A life reconciled to God is lived in service to His Son. A life lived in service to His Son is a life lived in service to others—including those at your workplace.

A good example of this is shown by the people who serve in our Puente Del Pueblo program. A ministry of Wheaton Bible Church, Puente del Pueblo is a community service organization located in two apartment complexes in West Chicago, serving through youth development, language literacy, and family stabilization programs. As they seek to bring Jesus’ hope and peace into the community, they proclaim—and encounter—Jesus’ message of reconciliation.

Questions for reflection and discussion:

  • Do you feel anxiety or fear when you have an opportunity to share and show that you’re a Christian in your workplace? If so, why? Pray that the Lord would fill you with the love of Christ.
  • How can you be an ambassador of God in your workplace?
  • Who is one person in your workplace that you can pray for, get to know, serve, and evangelize to?
