“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16

How might God be nudging you to love our neighbors or reach to the nations?

There are many ways to expand your awareness of what God is doing in the world and to let your light shine here in our community. Prayerfully consider these possibilities... Then wade in with your time, talents, and resources!

CareFest
Read more

CareFest means “being good neighbors.” With the goal of building bridges of love and compassion in the community, people who serve at CareFest give their time and skills to provide practical, physical help in order to serve families and individuals in our community, schools, not-for-profits, our church family, and more. Following the words and example of Jesus in Luke 10:25-37 and Matthew 25:31-40 we want to be neighbors that are intentional about serving our neighbors.

Global Missions

GO Teams
Read more

GO Teams are a great way to experience cross-cultural service firsthand by serving 7 to 10 days alongside one of our missionaries or partners.  Every year, our church offers several GO Teams for adults, plus some for students and families. These short-term teams serve at the invitation of our missionaries to meet a specific need. Recent GO Teams have:

  • Extended compassion and practical help to vulnerable children in the Dominican Republic and Kenya
  • Deepened relationships with First Nation Peoples in Ontario
  • Done Gospel outreach in key European cities
  • Used their construction skills to rebuild a community devasted by wildfires or hurricanes
Missionary Care Team

Want to get to help extend a warm welcome to missionary families as they arrive for a short or extended stay? Or extend care or compassion in times of need? If you have a heart for hospitality and would enjoy getting to know our global workers more personally—join our “on call” team of Missionary Care volunteers. When opportunities arise, we would reach out to explore who is available to help in any of the following ways:

  • Provide transportation to or from the airport (using your vehicle or the church van).
  • Provide cookies, a welcome meal, or restaurant gift card when they arrive.
  • Stock the fridge with a few basics for their first couple of days here. (we would provide the list)
  • Invite them for lunch or coffee at your home or a favorite eatery.
  • Offer your guest room overnight.
  • Help spruce up our missionary townhome as we prepare for an arriving missionary family.
  • Write encouragement cards to missionaries.

Email Bethany Wetzel at bwetzel@wheatonbible.org to express your interest in joining our On-Call Missionary Care Team.

Explore Missionary Service

If you feel the nudge to stick your toe in the water and explore missionary service, contact Pastor Bill Oberlin at (boberlin@wheatonbible.org). He would explore your interests and sense of call, and suggest options to gain understanding of and experience with cross-cultural service. This may include joining a GO Team, taking a “go on your own” missions trip to serve alongside one of our global workers, connecting with a WBC missionary, being matched with a missions mentor, or taking the Perspectives course. We also have an informal Missionary Preparation Program, which is customized for people considering God’s call on their life. Our team is eager to walk this journey with you, wherever you are in the process.

Pray

Many Christians have a burden for a part of the world but don’t quite know how to pray in an informed way. Prayercast.com videos (4 to 6 minutes long) are a powerful resource—combining the arts with innovative media to activate world-changing prayer. Each video leads you in intercessory prayer for a specific culture and people group. These videos are a great add to your devotional life or can be used in your small group.

To pray specifically for our WBC missionaries, consider these options:

  • Join the email list of a missionary you would like to track with.
  • Receive a pictorial prayer sheet each month from our Global Outreach team with succinct requests from 8 to 10 of our current missionaries. Email Bethany Wetzel bwetzel@wheatonbible.org to express your interest.

When you give to Wheaton Bible Church, 30 cents out of every dollar supports our Global and Local Missions–which are advancing God’s kingdom in over 50 nations. Special offerings, such as during MissionsFest or a major crisis (such as the war in Ukraine), help our missionaries and partners go the “second mile” as, together, we let our light shine to bring glory to God.

Each October, our church hosts MissionsFest. For nine days, we put the spotlight on how God is working through our global workers and church family as we “let our light shine” among the nations and in our own community. Inspiring and informative—MissionsFest is packed with stories of transformation. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from visiting missionaries and partners who join us for this memorable week. Watch for details!

Three to four times a year, over 90 women of all ages gather for Brunch with a Missionary. This B&B style brunch includes an enlightening program featuring one of our amazing WBC missionary women. We laugh, cry, and are inspired as we are transported to near and far corners of the world. At each brunch, we discover how God is using the unique giftedness and life experiences of our global women to reflect his love and build bridges to the Gospel.

Check out a recent or upcoming brunch here.
